YOU ARE NOT TOO SMALL TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Imagine your baby taking its first steps, imagine your child setting foot towards primary school, imagine someone walking again after an operation. Every step is important, even the smallest ones. At least, that’s what we at Ba*Ba believe in.

We are striving to take a few first steps to rethink fashion and what happens to our clothes after we’re done with them. We partner with others to reduce our impact on the planet and people. We are dedicated to creating a more just and sustainable future. Because that’s exactly the future we want our children to have.

The small steps we are taking towards a more sustainable future:

THE FIRST STEP: CHOOSING ORGANIC MATERIALS

In choosing our materials, we try to aim towards more natural and organic fabrics. Currently, 95% of our collection is made with organic cotton and we are constantly trying to increase this percentage. In addition, we have reduced the proportion of virgin synthetic fibres in our clothing and replaced this with recycled polyester. In the future we want to replace these synthetics completely with new fabrics with a lower eco-footprint.

This way, we are making our clothes safe for the planet and those wearing them.

ASSURING THE STRUCTURE OF THE PATH WE’RE STEPPING ON: OUR MANUFACTURERS

At Ba*Ba, we know exactly where our clothes are manufactured. Producing ethically has always been at the core of our business. We do not support practices like child labor, slavery, unpaid working hours, or lack of social security.

Thus, we have been partnering with trusted manufacturers in Portugal, Bulgaria, and Turkey for years. We have visited these factories ourselves, to see how and where our clothes are made.

Our partner factories are well recognized and carry certifications like GOTS and OEKO-TEX. They also have a strong corporate social responsibility policy. Together, we are working on sourcing better fabrics, reducing our production waste, and aligning our businesses with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

STEPPING UP OUR GAME: PLASTIC-FREE & RECYCLED PACKAGING

Packaging is a big part of any fashion business. We switched partly to a plastic-free and recycled carton and paper packaging to reduce our waste and impact on the planet.

NEXT STEP: REDUCING OUR TRANSPORTATION FOOTPRINT

The suppliers we work with ship by land instead of air, to reduce their transportation footprint. They are also starting to use recycled packaging to transport our clothes. We are encouraging them to further increase this proportion of recycled packaging materials.

RETRACING OUR STEPS: #GROWUPWITHBABA

At Ba*Ba, we aim not only to take new steps towards more sustainability, we also think it’s important to retrace our steps.

OUR STEPPING STONE INTO THE FUTURE: CIRCULARITY

Yet, we aim to do more. We occasionally plan a Ba*Ba repair day where everyone is welcome to come and repair clothes with little rips or flaws. Since some of our clothes come back from the manufacturers with small imperfections, we want to encourage mending and repairing these clothes instead of throwing them away. We offer the repaired clothes to a local charity and give the helpers a package for their own children.

This way, we are taking and retracing steps in our production process in order to create a circular process where our Ba*Ba clothes are being worn and re-worn, are being worn-out and mended, are being played in and passed on. Are being gifted and regifted. That would be our gift to the planet, our small steps on a more sustainable path.
